CBD 101

A: CBD is an acronym for cannabidiol which is one of the major cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. Elixinol CBD is produced from industrial hemp and extracted using a CO2 extraction process.

A. No, you will not get high from consuming almost all of the Elixinol products. They are made entirely and only from industrial hemp and do not contain the intoxicating properties of THC. Additionally, cannabidiol actually keeps THC from binding fully, so when people use CBD with THC they do not get as “high”. However, the new Unwind Delta 9 Gummies are the exception and they can be intoxicating. A. Any of products labeled as full-spectrum hemp extract contain less than 0.3% of THC. Our broad-spectrum products, such as the Sports Gel and Daily Balance Winter Mint tinctures, are formulated as broad-spectrum hemp extract which contain no detectable levels of THC.

A: CBD products are sensitive to high heat. For best quality, be sure to track your order closely, bring it inside as soon as possible and store in a cool, dry place. Gummies can and will likely MELT if kept in high temperatures for an extended time. In the summer months, we may ship gummies with a cold pack to maintain best quality.

A: There are many ways to extract CBD from the hemp plant. At Elixinol we use super critical CO2 extraction. By controlling the temperature, time and pressure, we are able to extract exactly what we want from the plant. Though this process is more expensive, it allows us to gather a premier extract without using any harsh solvents. 

A: The Endocannabinoid System (ECS) was discovered back in the early 1990’s and has been a focus of many studies since then. Research shows that the ECS plays a significant role within the immune system, stress and pain responses, regulating memories, sleep, metabolism and even reproduction. Interestingly enough, humans aren’t the only ones with an ECS system. Mammals, birds, fish, reptiles and even invertebrates such as mussels and sea urchins have an ECS, too. The ECS system is comprised of three main parts: endocannabinoids (also called endogenous cannabinoids), receptors and enzymes. Endocannabinoids are molecules made by your body is what binds to the receptors. There are two endocannabinoid receptors, CB1 and CB2. CB1 receptors are found mostly in the brain and central nervous system. CB2 receptors are found primarily in your immune system but can also be found in many peripheral organs. Once the endocannabinoids have carried out their function there is an enzyme that breaks the connection down. It’s like a telephone call. Endocannabinoids are the message, the receptors are the phone, and the enzymes hang up the phone once the call is done.

A: The ECS system is all about maintaining harmony and balance within the body. Since everyone’s chemical makeup is different, what will create balance for each individual varies as well. Research indicates that CBD can support a healthy immune system, promote natural sleep, as well as help to relieve occasional, everyday stress. Unlike THC it will not make you “high”. CBD is not addictive, nor does it look like people develop a “tolerance” to it. Some people have reported that they feel like it might not be as effective over time. This is often resolved by either taking a small break and “resetting” or even changing the time of day you take it. 

A: The recommended serving size on the back of the package is simple a starting point. You can adjust to more or less than that recommended amount, depending on how you are feeling. 

A: Taking too much CBD will not have the same common “overdose” reactions that most people associate with schedule 1 drugs. Unless someone has a cannabis allergy, taking too much CBD will probably just make them a little sleepy. For some people who have sensitive stomachs, they might experience a few “tummy issues.”

A: No. The industrial hemp used to produce Elixinol is a variety of cannabis that does not contain the psychoactive properties of THC. Industrial hemp, including that used to produce Elixinol, is essentially a cousin of marijuana and (for most people) a more practical source of cannabinoids. 

A: From cultivation cycles to end uses, hemp and marijuana are fairly different pants. Though they both come the genus (cannabis) but the main difference is that marijuana typically contains anywhere from 5-20% THC, Hemp contains no more that 0.3% THC but has high quantities of CBD. 

A: The potency of the oil is important for formulation of the end product. Generally the higher the potency, the greater number of cannabinoids present in the oil. Potency percentage is important during the formulation of a production batch. Our finished products are formulated to produce a consistent milligram (Mg.) measurement regardless of the potency of the oil that was infused into the product. The mg. designation calls out the active amount of CBD present.

A: Terpenes are the “essence” of a plant. Terpenes are what gives a plant its smell and taste. Cannabis has over 200 different terpenes in the plant. In cannabis terpenes play an important role in a phenomenon called the “entourage effect”.

A: Yes, all of our products maintain natural terpenes, which give the products their smell and taste. None of our products contain artificial sweeteners and rely mainly on terpenes and essential oils. IN additional all of our products use sugar alcohol to refine our CBD extract, but those alcohols are burned off before the finished goods are created.

A: The quality of the material used, extraction method deployed, and the current formulation all affect the color and flavor of the end product. Elixinol does periodically change the formulation and extraction methods which can result in differentiating colors of the finished good. The overall potency and effect of the product should not be altered. 

A: Elixinol products are organically grown and extracted with supercritical CO2 fluid extraction technology. No harsh solvents are used in ay of our products.
